EasyJet continues to invest in the Campania region of Italy. The airline will soon strengthen its presence at Naples airport by basing its eighth aircraft there. In addition, EasyJet has announced five new routes for a total of 11 weekly flights to and from Salerno Costa d'Amalfi airport.

The new routes will start on July 11th, the scheduled opening date of the airport. The first flight to land will be from Milan Malpensa, followed by flights from Basel, Geneva and Berlin on July 12th. The flight from London Gatwick will land on July 13th.

The announcement was made by EasyJet CEO Johan Lundgren, together with Gesac CEO Roberto Barbieri.

Seats on the first flight sold out in two hours

On the same day that tickets for the first flights to Salerno went on sale, the first plane was filled in just two hours, without any marketing. The new connections will initially operate during the summer season, but EasyJet has made it clear that it intends to extend them throughout the year.

From July, there will be three weekly frequencies for the Milan Malpensa - Salerno route and two weekly frequencies for London Gatwick, Basel, Geneva and Berlin. With the addition of these five new routes from Salerno, EasyJet's total capacity offered in Campania in the next summer season will increase to almost three million seats, with 51 routes to 13 countries.

EasyJet strengthens its presence in Campania

“The new airport in Salerno fills a gap,” said the CEO of EasyJet, “and will serve an important catchment area.” He then clarified: “This is an expansion in Campania, as the Salerno airport will not take anything away from Naples; on the contrary, the company is also strengthening its presence at Capodichino.”

Sustainability: -50% emissions by 2035

Johan Lundgren also announced important programs in terms of sustainability. “EasyJet,” he said, “will reduce emissions by 35% by 2035.” In particular, with Gesac, the English company wants to create a model of sustainable air traffic and airport management. This will be possible thanks to the purchase of new aircraft.

EasyJet has in fact planned to replace 158 aircraft. “Manufacturers are experiencing delays in the delivery of aircraft,” Lundgren openly said. “We are not turning to the late companies. But we have ordered from Airbus and Cfm. Thanks to these deliveries, we will be able to grow our flights by 8% compared to the European average of 4%.”
